Wetting a line in the Upper Colorado
I was recently commissioned to shoot a cover for a magazine. The setup was to get aspirational photos of a woman fly-fishing in spring conditions. The magazine introduced me to fly-fisher Maddie Brenneman and together we made a plan. We thought we would give the Fraser river a try as it was close to both of us. I got there early to scout it out and was just not quite working for cover quality shots. Luckily the Upper Colorado river is just down the road. We re-routed our efforts and hit a few spots between the bucolic towns of Hot Sulphur and Parshall. The flows were low and the cottonwoods were popping with electric green spring foliage. We shot heavily for a few hours. I made 2040 images which I narrowed to 160 and then down to 51 of which 17 are being considered for the cover and 1 will be chosen. All images shot with Sigma 70-200 f2.8 EX and 24-70 f2.8 A lenses on Canon 5DMKIII body. The gallery below includes a sampling of our day on the river. It sure was a good one.
